Therefore he will lift up the head - i.e., he will continue the battle with his strength intact and his head held high (4-7). He will drink of the brook in the way (i.e., he will refresh himself in the midst of his battle). He will fill the nations with dead bodies. The Lord will destroy kings in the day of his wrath. The Messiah will be a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. These descriptions are symbolic of his splendor and his vigor (2-3). His people will be willing in the day of his power, in the beauty of holiness, in the morning, in youth. The Messiah will rule out of Zion in the midst of his enemies. Other NT writers applied this Psalm to Christ as well: Acts 2:34-35 Acts 7:55. Jesus applied this to himself ( Mark 12:35-37). The Palmist (David) tells us that the LORD (Yahweh) said to his Lord (Adonai), " Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool." The Jews applied this to the Messiah (1). Explanation: In Psalm 110, David reveals that his son the Messiah, who is also his Lord, will rule the earth.
